The movie is intended to be the sequel to 2015's Ant-Man, and the twentieth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Set between the events of Captain America: Civil War, Scott Lang, now under house arrest after the events of Civil War, tries to balance his home life as a father with his responsibilities as Ant-Man. When Hope van Dyne and Hank Pym present him with a new mission to bring to light secrets from their past, Lang teams up with Van Dyne as the new Wasp.

    Paul Stephen Rudd is an American actor, comedian, writer, and producer. Rudd was born April 6, 1969 in Passaic, New Jersey. His father was a historical tour guide and his mother was a sales manager at a television station. Rudd attended Broadmoor Junior High and graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in the class of 1987. He attended the University of Kansas, where he majored in theater. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity's Nu Chapter there. He studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts/West in Los Angeles. Rudd spent three months studying Jacobean drama at the British American Drama Academy based in Oxford, England. While attending acting school, Rudd worked as a Bar Mitzvah disc jockey. He made his acting debut in 1992 with the television drama Sisters where he played Kirby Quimby Philby. He is known for his starring roles in the films Wet Hot American Summer (2001), Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004), The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005), Knocked Up (2007), Role Models (2008), I Love You, Man (2009), This Is 40 (2012), Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013) and The Fundamentals of Caring (2016).

    Nicole Evangeline Lilly is a Canadian actress and author. Lilly was born on August 3, 1979 in Fort Saskatchewan in Alberta. She was raised in British Columbia by her mother and her father, a produce manager. She graduated from W. J. Mouat Secondary School in Abbotsford, British Columbia, where she played soccer and was vice-president of the student council. Her interest in humanitarian causes and global development led her to major in International Relations at the University of British Columbia. Lilly's acting career began when she was discovered by a Ford Modeling Agency agent while walking the streets of Kelowna, British Columbia. She is also known for her roles as Connie James in The Hurt Locker (2008), Bailey Tallet in Real Steel (2011), Tauriel in The Hobbit film series.
